Hi! My name is Jason Kahana.  I have been building guitars in my one-man shop in Schwenksville, PA (a suburb of Philly) since 2005.  My goal is to provide the highest quality custom guitars at prices that even a working musician can afford.

I have played guitar for the last 25 years or so, and have been in love with the instrument for as long as I can remember.  Several years ago, I decided to build my own shop, take some instruction from local woodworkers and luthiers, and take a shot at opening my own custom guitar business.

My philosophy is that the single most important thing about a guitar is how you play it.  Custom guitars are nice, but they are just a tool to be used in the hands of the musician.  Many of the greatest players that you can think of used guitars that weren’t particularly exotic or expensive.  I have rarely encountered an “off the rack” guitar that I couldn’t make sound good with a few tweaks and a professional setup.

That said, sometimes the heart wants what it wants.  That’s where I come in.  If you have a vision about a custom guitar, I can make it happen for you.  And heck, I’m often cheaper than some of the high end guitars from the major manufacturers!  I use only the highest quality materials and components, and I personally guarantee that your custom instrument will meet or exceed your wildest expectations.  I can use virtually any kind of wood, hardware, or finish you desire, and I will work with you to make sure that you will get exactly the instrument that you want.

On a side note, I am also a cancer biologist.  It's actually my primary profession and my true calling!  I received my Ph.D. in Cellular and Developmental Biology from Harvard Medical School in 1998 and have worked as a researcher since then.  You can check out my Curriculum Vitae here.  I am currently on an unexpected (and unwanted!) hiatus from the pharmaceutical industry, so I currently (and hopefully, temporarily) have some more time to take on additional projects.

I hope that you enjoy checking out my site, and sincerely hope that you will consider commissioning a custom instrument from Jason Kahana Custom Guitars.  I look forward to hearing from you.

Best wishes-

jk
